On June 26th, Saturday Evening Post journalist
Barbara Barrielle published an article outlining
the origins of the Men's Senior Baseball League.
She interviewed MSBL Founder and President
Steve Sigler, as well as players who have been
a part of the MSBL for decades.
Following is an excerpt from Barbara's story,
reprinted with her permission:
In 1988, Steve Sigler founded the MSBL, which he ran out of his Long Island home, to provide an opportunity for adults eager to get back in the game, stay in shape, and enjoy the camaraderie of a team.
What began as four teams has grown into a national organization, with 3,200 teams, 325 local affiliates, and almost 50,000 members who play in leagues across the country — a number that grows each year. Growth is organic and very word-of-mouth as word spreads about the opportunity to play real baseball, no matter your age.
The organization is now headquartered in Melville, New York. Sigler oversees day-to-day operations and may be the guy answering your phone call or email when you contact the MSBL.
“I never dreamed [the league] would get to where it is today, but I am so gratified at the mark it has left on tens of thousands of players across the country,” Steve Sigler, MSBL Founder and President
